About the Author
Prof. Billy Okoye is the Oil, Gas, & Energy Marketing Coordinator at the University of Abuja Business School. His three decades of extensive experience in the oil and gas sector are complemented by his membership on various Boards, including the UNN Business School, Cobena Schools Ltd, Global Innovation Institute and as the Executive Chairman of Raffles Energies Ltd, among others.
Before transitioning to academia, Prof. Okoye held several pivotal roles in the oil and gas industry. As NNPC Group Executive Director (GED) for Ventures and Business Development, he oversaw divisions including NNPC Medicals Ltd, NNPC Research Technology and Innovation, NNPC Properties Ltd, NAPET Ltd, the Renewables Energy Division, the Health Maintenance Organisation, and the NNPC Academy. As Group General Manager/CEO of the NNPC Crude Oil Marketing Division, he was responsible for marketing Nigeria’s equity crude oil and natural gas liquids. He also served as MD/CEO of NNPC Retail Ltd, managing all NNPC fueling stations nationwide, and as Executive Director Commercial at Petroleum Products Marketing Company Ltd, ensuring the efficient procurement and distribution of petroleum products across Nigeria. His tenure as General Manager of Commercial at Brass LNG Ltd saw him negotiating LNG and LPG sales in both international and domestic markets and overseeing the Gas Supply and Shipping Departments. He served in other capacities at Eleme Petrochemicals Company Ltd, Kaduna Refining and Petrochemicals Company Ltd, and Unit One Organisation Ltd.
Educationally, Prof. Okoye holds a BSc in Economics, an MBA in Finance & Management, a Mini MBA in Oil & Gas Management, a Law Diploma, and a DBA in Oil, Gas & Energy Marketing. He has also undergone training at prestigious institutions like Harvard Business School and IHRDC USA. A prolific author, Prof. Okoye has published several books and articles in renowned journals and conferences.
His achievements have been recognized with Nigeria’s national honours award of the Order of the Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) and Anambra State’s Commander Medal Award. Additionally, he is a Knight of the Church of God, Anglican Communion, and holds the esteemed position of High Chief in the Awkuzu and Umunya Kingdoms.
